god-as-i-see

there was a group of frogs living in a well, who had never ever seen the world outside the well. they used to swim from one end of the well to another and practically did whatever they could inorder to get out of the well so that they could understand the world outside. but they always went short of luck and never ever could see the world outside the well. in short, it was "beyond their limit of physical, mental and emotional capabilities to realise the world outside".

as the days passed, the frogs started to quarrel among each other for supremacy over the well. the fight continued till one of the frog faced fatal blows and collapsed to death. however this didnt sedate the tension between the frogs, but ironically aggravated it. among these frogs there was a "Spiritual frog". It sensed that this chaos would be catastrophic if the current mindset of the frogs is not altered. It asked its fellow frogs to render their ears for an important announcement. The rest of the frogs took out some time to listen to the spiritual frog.
The spiritual frog told "my friends, i just had a vision that someone is there, who wants to help us see the world outside. but he would do so only if we to stop our fight".
all the other frogs exclaimed in unison "what?!!!".
to this the spiritual frog told "yes my friends, he showered his grace onto me me and lifted me to show the outside world". one of the frog said "is it true? how can we believe u? have is he to look?"
the spiritual frog said "YES, I HAVE SEEN HIM, HE IS OMNIPRESENT, OMNISCIENT, OMNIPOTENT, HE IS JUST WAITING FOR US TO STOP OUR FIGHTS AND YEARN HIS HELP".
the other frog said, "then why cant we see him? how could u see him? can u show where he is?"
to this the spiritual frog told "Since u are always busy in fighting u r unable to see him. i have deduced a path to reach him, to see him. i can surely present it to u if u can surrender all ur weapons and follow my principles"
to this all the frogs nodded and surrendered their weapons and started to listen to the spiritual frog. Soon the spiritual frog put forth a big list of activities which no frog could achieve in one lifetime. he called it as "holy book". This made sure that no one could complete their activities before they died, and hence the spiritual frog escaped from getting caught of its deceit. but however something unexpected happened. one of the frogs called brahman, came to know that spiritual frog was deceiving everyone. but he realised the rationale behind this act. he soon realised that if the spiritual frog had not tricked them, then every one should have been killed by fighting each other. so he joined his hands with the spiritual frog. soon the spiritual frog said that only brahman has that special divine quality to envision that person who is looking out to help them. since then everybody started to respect brahman and soon his legacy was carried by his off springs.
several days passed by and a group of frogs started doubting that the brahmans & spiritual frogs were fake. soon they understood that their suspicion was indeed right. they denounced their spiritual odyssey. everybody called them "atheist frogs". these atheist frogs formed their own group and constantly struggled to make their fellow frogs aware of the delusion caused by the spiritual and the brahman frogs.
as time elapsed, a big contingent of frogs were following the holy book "religioulsy". there was another contingent of frogs who were caught in a confusion of whats happening around and wandered without any clear understanding in their mind.

so this brings us to the end of this story of frogs in a far well, where
1. spiritual and brahman frogs continued to control others by deceiving them. they gave a "holy book", and some went on to append few more dogmas by writing "holy scriptures" in order to get a strong hold on the rest of the frog community.
2. atheist frogs continued to fight for justice.
3. religious frogs who blindly followed the spiritual and brahman frogs.
4. others simply wandered without understanding whats happening around.

athmonnathi retreat

Today i attended an athmonnathi retreat program, conducted by Divine Park. i got the invitation from sudhindra, one of my colleague and my ex-TL/PL. I never intended to attend this program, but he forced me again and again, and I had to finally succumb to it, when he convinced me that i would benefit from it immensely. well i dont know the exact reason why i got convinced, may be my inquisitive mind wanted to know what kind of stuff goes on in such programs or may be i wanted to learn the art of meditation. what ever it is, one thing is sure that i was there at 9 am.

the venue was Hotel Capitol in Raj Bhavan Road. i had payed a fee of 1000 Rs to enroll for this event. i didnt like the idea of paying this amount, to a spiritual lecture, which is so common in this country. i question the organisers why they felt that Hotel Capitol would be a conducive environment to carry out this retreat. i did question this to sudhindra, for which he told me that it was basically to facilitate the esteemed guests from the corporate world, as this program was targeted for them. his feels that the effect of the retreat would be avalanches if the message is carried out to a influential person, who caters for more people.

on reaching there i could see beautiful ladies, cladded in their ceremonious sarees, welcoming their guests at the entrance. i met rashmi rai at the entrance, who informed tat even guru and manu had arrived. sudhindra came along to invite me. he asked me to register before i took my seat. on regestring i received a package of materials.
i collected them, and went straight to meet guru and manu. took a seat besides them.
nandan prabhu, was the person responsible to address us. i had heard about him through sudhindra. nandan prabhu, had worked closely with padma sheshadri a renowned RSS activist.

hmmmm.... well if i go on meticulously describing each moment, i guess i wud run out of my allocated space on e-blogger. so it would be less taxing for u, e-blogger and me, if i briefly present my ideas/thoughts that were provoked after listening to the lecture from nandan prabhu.

well after listening to his lecture, i really appreciated his commanding oratorship. but it failed to impress me, and thus failed in its objective to envision me to the truth. on the contrary it was just another good lecture where the orator plays with his words, and deludes his listeners. i feel that all these people who give lectures on spirituality, use mainly 3 weapons to make their point.
a) they choose some GOD(say X) as a platform for their discussion, around which they go on weaving a dogma as per which they want the people to act. if any questions are put forth, which cannot be explained rationally, they will give sloppy answers by saying that X has told it that way. Hence in the name of X, they elude most of the questions. lets say if u ask him how can u say that by doing so and so u will find X? they wud bluntly reply back saying that is what is said by X, and I have followed it and realised X, and now if u follow it u would also realise X.

it so funny sometimes when i reflect on this. but at the same time its a tragedy when ppl simply fall prey for it. they dont even make an analysis or reason out to find whether what is said is right or wrong.
please see my story, which will give u an anology of what i want to convey here.

b) they choose analogies from the real world, to explain their tenets having an intangible subject as their basis. i strongly condemn this because one should not explain such tenets using an inference. they both operate at a different level. even though they use this to give a conceptual understanding it creates a tendency of blind belief of their principles without questioning.

c) i could clearly see the psychological techniques used by the orator, inorder to ram his points into his listeners without their knowledge. Let me illustrate with a small example of what he did.
His point was that, if one has to beget a child with good qualities, the parents have to keep their thoughts clean by doing 'Japa' of desired gods. he said that the couple must perform this 10 days before intercourse and 10 days after. he said that a child would derive the karmas of his parents, his grand parents, his great grand parents. and this is what i call as psychological technique to entrap his listeners. the point that he made would def be carried sub consciously by everyone back to their home, since anyone would obviously want to beget a good child. hence they would peform whatever actions that were prescribed/advised to beget a child with su-karmas.

After some contemplation i realise that these so called(some self proclaimed) spiritual gurus, are just like the militants/terrorists. Take the example of Osama Bin Laden, who uses the Gods name to motivate people to do what he wants. On the similar lines even these spiritual gurus tend to motivate people to do what they want. To sum it up in one sentence, "both of them manipulate people to achieve some purpose".

I would like to end this post with these few words.
"While the rest of the world asks the question, 'Who gave permission to terrorists like Osama to manipulate people to do jehad and kill people?' I ask this question, 'Who gave permission to these spirtual gurus, to play with the innocent minds of billions of people?'"

NATURE & CULTURE

Let me cite the reason for the title "NATURE CULTURE". On 21st June 2007 while i was heading back to my home from office, my eyes were glancing through 'Viveka Sampadha', a Kannada quarterly, maintained by 'Divine Park'. I came across an article on 'Prakruthi mathu Samskruthi'(Nature & Culture) written by Dr Chandrashekha Udupa. I was grasped in the inherent meaning of the subject and the simplicity with which it was explained. It talked about the raw Nature and the sofisticated human woven culture -

'wood - furnitures'; 'stone - sculptures'; 'land/forest - agriculture'; 'cotton - clothes'; 'rivers - dams for irrigation/electricity'; 'paddy - rice'; 'brawn - dance'; 'scream - singing'; '

This whole relation between nature and culture is beautifully epitomized in this one line:
- "Its natural to quench ones own hunger but only with culture one can quench others hunger"

A trip to "coorg - the land of bravos"

Coorg is one of the coolest place i have ever seen. It is also known as madikeri. It is situated in south India in south karnataka. Its lush green forests is a habitat for various wild animals, some of them are towards their extinct(thanks to poaching). We reached coorg at around 1-2 AM (i m not sure as i was fast asleep), booked a lodge in shakthinagar.

In the morning we had a brief walk in the cold breeze, took few snaps, had our tea(which we desperately needed). Got ready and left to visit Golden Buddha, which was situated in a near by chinese monastery. This monastery is filled with chinese infiltrates, who have now setup their dwellings here. The monastery is well maintained - neat and clean. The huge gigantic golden(not sure) budha statues are a joy to the eyes.

After this, we vacated our lodge, and started towards Kaveri Nisarga Dhama. It is a park with a hanging bridge at the entrance, which made a very good first impression on the visitors. Not much was there inside except for few rabbits, and huge trees and a cool ambiance. The bridge is built over a valley(almost still and dry). Some people enjoyed boating, but it didn't interest our crew, and we moved out of the park after resting for few minutes.

Next we moved towards a valley which is about an hour drive from the Kaveri Nisarga Dhama. Although I don't remember the place name, but the memories of crossing the valley in a small boat, taking the snaps of the ladies gang who were trying to climb the trees, all of us getting into the water and slowly making our ways towards the middle of the valley by walking on the hard rocks and asking the two young ladies to take our snaps, all these naughty things we did, are still fresh in my mind. The valley was not fierce, but still some people were trying to have fun with some water sports, but we felt that it would be a waste of time if we tried it, and some were of the opinion that it would not be any fun in such a valley. So we decided to move towards our next spot - Talakaveri - the birth place of CAUVERY.

Cauvery is referred to as "Jeeva Nadhi" in Kannada, which means "A river of life". The journey of this sacred river starts from here and culminates into Arabian sea. There is near by hill top view, which took around 10 mins for us to reach there. On reaching there, we were exhausted, but this was only for a short time. On seeing the marvelous scenic beauty all around us, we were immediately refreshed and all our tiredness were absorbed in the dipping sun, which slowly engulfed us giving us a beautiful view of the sunset.

We then left to the main city of Coorg where we lodged into a house which was just perfect for our team. This didn't happen before we wasted our precious time in searching for a place to dwell for the night. We were mis guided by a person, which really ate up the time. May be God had booked this beautiful Villa for us to stay that night. This was a home, lent for the tourists. The owner made some money from this, just as many others did in the vicinity. We went in search for our dinner, which again took up some considerable time. This was mainly because of ordering the food in 2 different restaurants , one for veggies and the other for non-veggies. All of us were sucked and we hardly had energy left to have a long dinner. Had a few pegs of wine (i guess i took rice wine & pineapple wine), and this was my first opportunity to taste the home made wines. The dinner constituted chicken, fish fry(actually fish curry), chicken tandoori, and mutton biryani. Soon all of us went to sleep without much 'after drinks talk'.

This however helped us to get up early in the morning, and soon after having our tea(thanks to our sweet owner), we left for a morning walk. We didn't knew the arena, but the ever burning curiosity to explore, energized our feet's and we went till we felt lost. Took few snaps and returned back to get fresh. Packed our baggage and took leave of our owner(now i remember that he had given us his card, fortunately its intact with me, details furnished at the end). He sold us fashion fruit juice, which he advertised by saying that they were home made. I got hold of one small bottle. The taste was quite good, and different as I had never tasted it before.

Next we went into the city, had our breakfast, left for a near by small park where we spent few minutes enjoying the beautiful scenery of faraway mountains and a steep hill side. After this we were all geared up to watch the ABBEY falls, which is one of the famous falls in Madikeri. On reaching the spot we had to walk for about 5-10 mins to reach the fall. I had took my swim clothings, thinking that we may get into the water, which never happened since they didn't allow any one to get into water. A hanging bridge was built in front of the fall, across the water pathway, on which people stood which appeared like birds perching on an electric line. I didn't board the bridge and stood outside taking some 'matrimonial' photos :-). Abbey falls is a small falls, with quite normal water gush. Don know, whether it was an off season(during december end). But it looked dull, and failed to impress me. This may be because of my prejudice, formed due to my earlier visits to gigantic, fierce, roaring, deep falls like Jog & Unchalli in Shimoga. Abbey looked like a baby, in my minds eye, when compared to these falls. Nevertheless the images of the 'pleasant smile of this baby' is still warm in me which relaxes me, when i recall it.

With not clear plan in our mind we boarded our qualis, and started moving. As it was still afternoon, some of us planned to visit more places. Thus we started towards the city, thinking we can have our lunch, during which we can plan further. While on our way back, in the qualis, we managed to get hold of a wine bottle. Each of us would sip every now and then, and me having a bigger share of it. We came back to the same place where we had our break fast. It took more than an hour to finish our lunch.

By this time everybody were tired and sleepy, and we decided to pack our bags to bangalore. Some did their last minute shopping like purchasing honey, while some wandered, and 'others waited for others'. After the reunion, we started our way back to bangalore. during which we felt like we didnt make much visits that day, so atleast we can visit mysore temple. Some felt that ist not feasible, and it eventually turned out to be true. However we halted briefly at mysore for our evening snacks, and resumed our journey. Its not fair, not to mention about the talks(especially with Yathish, Vinayakam & Sandeep) we had on our way. Every body were involved in the talk, thus no one realized how fast the time had slipped and thus we reached bangalore merrily.

This was an incredible trip from my point of view as i discovered many places and most imprtant of them being Talakaveri and Abbey falls. I really enjoyed the company of all my colleagues at Flextronics Designs - Ajith, Deepak, Ramesh V, Sandeep, Srini, Vinayakam, Yathish.
I thank you all guys for making me a part of this wonderful and memorable trip.

Honnemaradu - A mini paradise

This is me :-) in a life jacket on a coracle. This scenic beauty was captured at Honnemaradu a place in Shimoga and its just 10 km from jog falls. It is situated in the back waters of Sharavathi river formed due to the construction of Linganamakki dam. The other activitites tat were included during this trip were swimming across islands, cannoeing, trekking, setting up camp fire ourselves. This is one of the ventures which i thoroughly njoyed.

U can contatct me for further and more details.
